Week 9

Leviticus 19:1-Numbers 3:51

Lev 19:9-10 Clear provision for the poor. God intended us to help where we can.

Lev 20:2-5 Warning about sacrificing children to Molech. Oh how I fear for our country! Abortion is just considered no big deal by so many. Help us not to “ignore those who offer their children” up this way. Do not turn against us, Lord…help us to stand up for the unborn!

Vs 13: Decree of death in the instance of homosexuality. For those that would use this verse to spew hatred against homosexuals, first, sin is sin. Is homosexuality a sin against God? Yes…but so is greed, lust, screaming at people because you disagree with them, and so on…Next, I would point out vs 9 of this same chapter. “Anyone who dishonors (or speaks disrespectfully of!!) father or mother must be put to death. Such a person is guilty of a capital offense.” Are we going to start implementing that one, too?! We can’t just pick and choose which punishments fit our views. Thankfully…grace!! God is the ultimate judge and through Jesus there is forgiveness of sins…all sins!! We don’t live under the law anymore and I for one am thankful that we don’t!!

Vs 23: “Do not live according to the customs of the people I am driving out before you.”

Vs 26: “You must be holy because, I , the Lord, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own.”

*I love how many times it repeats “I am the Lord who makes them/him/you holy.” It’s clear…it’s all God and holiness isn’t possible except by Him.

Lev 24:2 Keep our lamps burning continually…always be a light/witness

Vs 12: in dealing with the man who had cursed God, he was brought before Moses for judgement and “They kept the man in custody until the Lord’s will in the matter should become clear to them.” Love this!! How wonderful would it be to have people in power that would seek God’s will in a matter before acting?? What a blessing that would be…and how different might our country be right now if we had that?!

*Is the Jubilee (7 years) where the bankruptcy terms of today came from…the forgiveness after 7 years??

Lev 25:10 The words “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof” are inscribed on the US Liberty Bell. I love how much scripture can be found on our nation’s monuments. Kirk Cameron’s “Monumental” covers this some, as does The American Heritage Series with David Barton. It’s amazing…I truly cannot comprehend how people can believe that our nation wasn’t founded on Christianity!!

Lev 26:13b “I broke the yoke of slavery from your neck so you can walk with your heads held high.” PRAISE GOD!!!! I should walk with me head held high…I’m free!

Numbers: the Hebrews called it “Wayyedabber”: and He said

Mark 8:11-12:17

Mk 8:11-38 Vs 12: “When he heard this , he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, ‘Why do these people keep demanding a miraculous sign?'”  I think this sigh speaks of frustration but on a deeper level, I feel it’s more an expression of sorrow by Jesus. I think He is just sad that people refuse to see Him for who he is-even after all that He had done. I think it’s still the same for us. I can be childish and demand a sign…an “if You do this” then “I will do that” type of scenario when Jesus longs for me to have a faith that is so deep that I truly see Him for who He is without needing a show of power.

Vs 23-25: This is the first time I read about a process to the healing. Jesus touches him and asks can you see and he says kinda. Jesus touches him again and he sees clearly. Why? Was this to show me that sometimes healing (physical and spiritual) isn’t instantaneous? It can be a process and take time? Working with Jesus to reach a point where I can “see everything clearly”.

Vs 29-33: First, Peter tells Jesus that He is the Messiah but right after corrects Him, which leads to Jesus saying to Peter, “Get away from me, Satan!” “You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”  1. He calls Peter, Satan?! 2. How often do I do this though?? Recognize His power and who He is…proclaim it! But then He says something I don’t like or don’t want to hear and I refuse to see God’s point of view? I just look at life or a situation with my human eyes??

Vs 34-37: Call to take up our cross and follow Him. I love that in Vs 34 He called the crowd to join the disciples. He said, “If any of you wants to be my follower…” This was as open call to follow Him. He makes it clear that nothing the world has to offer is worth losing our soul.

Mk 9:30-31 “Leaving that region, they traveled through Galilee. Jesus didn’t want anyone to know he was there, for he wanted to spend more time with his disciples and teach them…” I find this beautiful!! He wanted to spend time alone with them so they could learn from Him. He wants the same from us! He wants to spend one-on-one time with us so that He can teach us what we need to learn!

Vs 38: “John said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, we saw someone using your name to cast out demons, but we told him to stop because he wasn’t in our group.'”  The disciples told him to stop because he didn’t identify himself with them. The man wasn’t teaching false doctrine or living in sin…he simply did not join up with the disciples! So many churches today are that way…the if you aren’t in our group well then you aren’t a true Christian mentality. It’s sad! It splits God’s people apart when we should be coming together to win people to Him.

*From the Believer’s Bible Commentary: Jesus speaking of cutting off the hand, foot or eye to keep from sinning. Hand=our deeds; foot=our walk; eye=the things we crave.

Psalms 42:1-47:9

Ps 47:1-9 Selah: Pause in His presence  In the Passion Translation of the Bible, the word Selah in Psalms is translated to Pause in His Presence. I LOVE IT!!

Proverbs 10:17-10:25

Prov 10:17 “People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life…”  Don’t see discipline/correction as a bad thing…God loves me, that’s why He corrects me!
