Week 16

Joshua 13:1-24:33

Josh 13:6b-7 “I myself will drive these people out of the land ahead of the Israelites. So be sure to give this land as a special possession, just as I have commanded you. Include all this territory as Israel’s possession when you divide this land among the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.” I love this! Looking forward-God says go ahead and split up the land because I WILL give it to you! I love that His promises are so sure and can be counted on!

Josh 21:45 “Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.” EVERYTHING!! God always keeps His promises!

Josh 22:5b “Love the Lord your God, walk in all his ways, obey his commands, hold firmly to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul.” Plan for life! Sums up perfectly what I need to do to be successful in my life!

Vs 25: “…your descendants may prevent our descendants from worshiping the Lord.” May NOTHING prevent me from worshiping my God!!

Josh 24:1-33 God’s “I” statements!! I LOVE THIS!! “I took” “I gave” “I gave” “I sent” “I brought” “I brought” “I put” “I brought” “I brought” “I destroyed” “I gave” “I made” “I rescued” “I gave” “I sent” “I gave” “I gave” “I gave” IT’S ALL GOD!!!

Luke 18:1-21:28

Lk 18:4-5 “The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!'” Be persistent and consistent in our prayers!

Vs 9-14: (the prayers of the Pharisee and the tax collector) Vs 14: “I tell you this sinner, not the Pharisee returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humbled themselves will be exalted.” YES!!! Sin is sin…there but for the grace of God , go I! We always have to strive to not get puffed up and think ourselves better than another just because our sin looks different from theirs!

Vs 15: “so he could TOUCH them and bless them” ONE TOUCH!!

Vs 21: “The man replied, ‘I’ve obeyed all these commandments since I was young.'” He was resting in his “righteousness”.

Vs 24-25: Jesus wasn’t saying rich people can’t go to heaven but that the love of money/material goods could lead a person astray from the pursuit of God and true treasures.

Vs 31-33: Jesus told the disciples what would happen to Him in Jerusalem (crucifixion) but they didn’t understand what He was telling them. “The significance of his words was hidden from them, and they failed to grasp what he was talking about.” Lord, help me to grasp Your Word-to not have Your meaning hidden from me!

Vs 38-40: the blind beggar was persistent…despite others telling him to “be quiet”!

Lk 19 Zacchaeus  Vs 4: “So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way.” May I always seek God…no matter the roadblocks that get in my way. May I always find a way to see Him over all the troubles of the world.

Vs 32: “So they went and found the colt, just as Jesus had said.” What He says, always will happen!

Vs 40: “He (Jesus) replied, ‘If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!'” God MUST be praised! Do not be silenced…don’t make His praise be switched to inanimate objects!

Lk 20:9-19 (Parable of the man and the vineyard) The owner: God; The 3 servants: prophets; Cherished son: Jesus Vs 19 “The teachers of religious law and the leading priests wanted to arrest Jesus immediately because they realized he was telling the story against them-they were the wicked farmers. But they were afraid of the people’s reaction.” I love that they knew Jesus was calling them out but were powerless to do anything about it at that moment!

Vs 23: “He saw through their trickery…” There’s no pulling one over on God! I can’t trick Him, deceive Him, or get away with anything with Him! It may seem like, with others, oh “I got away with that”…but God knows!! Can’t hide from an all-seeing God! That used to scare me…now I feel cherished. He loves me so much He won’t let me get away with things that could destroy me!

Vs 46-47: Warning against false religion in leaders…some TV evangelists??? Not all, of course, but those who love all the trappings of the position but just have “religion” not relationship!

Psalms 85:1-89:52

Ps 85:12 “Yes, the Lord pours down his blessings…” YES!! PRAISE GOD!!!

Ps 86:1-17 All so good! GOD WILL HEAR!!!

Ps 88 A very depressing Psalm to me. The writer is suffering…feeling alone/abandoned.

Ps 89:1-13 AWESOME Vs 13: “Powerful is your arm! Strong is your hand! Your right hand is lifted high in glorious strength!”

Proverbs 13:7-23

Vs 10: “Pride leads to conflict; those who take advice are wise.” Don’t get proud…be willing to seek and accept advice!

Vs 16a: “Wise people think before they act;”  Always, always, ALWAYS think things out!! Don’t just react in a situation-it leads to trouble! Vs 16b “fools don’t-and even brag about their foolishness.” Don’t be a fool-think BEFORE acting!
