Numbers 28:16-Deuteronomy 4:49
Num 31:6 “Then Moses sent them out, 1,000 men from each tribe, and Phineas, son of Eleazer the priest led them into battle. They carried along the holy objects of the sanctuary and the trumpets for sounding the charge.” Lesson for me? Never go into “battle” without allowing Jesus (the holy objects) to lead the way! It also occurred to me how heartbreaking it must have been for Moses to know he was not going to enter into the Promised Land because of his disobedience. Then I thought of my own life and I had to wonder how many “Promised Lands” (blessings) I’ve missed out on because of my disobedience and rebellion. I think, in general, we usually don’t see the things we may have missed out on…the blessings that God wanted to give us but we shut the door by being unfaithful. But Moses…after so many years, so much faithfulness, so much obedience…to be taken up to see the Promised Land but not be able to enter it because of one moment of rebellion! How heartbreaking that must have been!! It teaches me that every single moment matters…each choice, every word, every thought, and every action effects what God will do in my life. Truly humbling. Help me, Father, to be obedient to Your call and Your leading. Help me to get myself out of the way and allow You to work in all parts of my life. I can’t even imagine possible blessings I’ve missed out on due to my stubborn rebellion. Lord, forgive me for all of those moments that closed the door to what You had for me. Help me, Lord, strengthen my faith and my walk with You so that I would never again miss out on anything You have planned for me.
Num 32:1-7 The tribes of Gad and Reuben basically said hey, we’re good here, can we have this land instead of journeying on into the Promised Land…I thought of how often that is me. To see where we are, get comfortable and not want to go to what God really has for us. Am I going to miss out on my “Promised Land” (future blessings/purpose) because I’m good with the here and now? Am I complacent? Content (not in a good God way but in a trusting in my comfort zone way)? Pondering!!
Vs 23b: “…and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.” There is no hiding wrong!
Num 35:33 “This will ensure that the land where you live will not be polluted, for murder pollutes the land. And no sacrifice except the execution of the murderer can purify the land from murder.” Argument for the death penalty??
Deuteronomy: reading the intro in The Believer’s Bible Commentary and came across this quote: “The rediscovery of God’s Word and submission to it always bring revival and recovery..” LOVE!!
Deut 4:9 “But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.” A testimony is important! Never forget what God rescued us from and we need to share that with others-especially our loved ones. God’s grace should never be forgotten!
Vs 21: (Moses speaking) “But the Lord was angry with me because of you. He vowed that I would not cross the Jordan River into the good land the Lord you God is giving you as a special possession.” I feel like Moses is passing the blame here-he is responsible for his decisions, actions and responses-no matter what the Israelites did/didn’t do. The same is true of me. I can’t control what others do but I can control how I respond/react to it.
Vs 29: “But you will search again for the Lord your God. And if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him.” PRAISE!!! That’s a promise!
Vs 39: “So remember this and keep it firmly in mind: THE LORD IS GOD BOTH IN HEAVEN AND ON EARTH, AND THERE IS NO OTHER.” Cap emphasis mine! Good reminder!
Lk 3:3 “Then John went from place to place on both sides of the Jordan River, preaching that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven.” This was an after…baptism was “to show” what had already taken place. An outward expression of an inner change. Baptism was not salvation…it was a way to show outwardly that salvation had already taken place.
Lk 4: Jesus being tempted in the wilderness: 1) Scripture fights everything!! Every temptation the devil threw at Jesus was met with scripture that clearly said NO! 2) Vs 10… even the devil knows scripture but it doesn’t save him. We can “know” every word of the Bible-it’s about personal application and relationship with Jesus.
“Temptations usually come in spasms rather than in streams.” -Believer’s Bible Commentary
Vs 39: “Standing at her bedside, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and prepared a meal for them.” Healed then serve. Use the gift God gives us (healing/forgiveness) to help others.
Lk 5:16 “But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.” THE POWER & IMPORTANCE OF PRAYER!
Vs 31-32: Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor-sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.” Amen!!
Lk 6:19 “Everyone tried to touch him, because healing power went out from him, and he healed everyone.” Just one touch!!
Vs 27-29a: From the Believer’s Bible Commentary: “This is supernatural love. Only those who are born again can know it or display it. It is utterly impossible for anyone who does not have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.”
Vs 43-44a: “A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. A tree is identified by its fruit.” Jesus made it clear-we are known by our works. Although we aren’t save by our works-they are a result of our true heart condition…good or bad.
Ps 62:5 “Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.”
Ps 65:2b-3 “All of us must come to you. Though we are overwhelmed by our sins, you forgive them all.” All means all…ALL people and ALL sins!
Vs 27: “If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you!” Yes, yes, yes….a million times YES!!!!
