Honestly I skimmed through the account of Creation. To me, one who was raised in church, it just seemed like old hat. (Now I see nothing in the Bible fails to teach us, no matter how many times it’s read, if we are looking to learn!)
Gen. 3:1 The serpent asks the woman…did all animals speak prior to sin? This may seem an odd question but the Bible doesn’t give us Eve’s reaction to a serpent coming up and speaking to her…so I wonder was she shocked?? Or was this the norm then…the original plan?
3:3 Eve lied to herself…when responding to the serpent, she added the words “even touch it” when talking about God’s rules surrounding the forbidden fruit. God didn’t say they couldn’t even touch it!! She was adding rules that didn’t exist!
3:6 “The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.” This was a new insight for me! I was always taught that Adam was off somewhere away from Eve when the tempting was happening, but it says she gave it to him “who was with her”!
4:15 What is Cain’s mark??
-Where did all the wives come from??
6:4 ??Giants?? “Sons of God”-who were they?
9:1 We are all descendants of Noah!
Gen 15: Abram is repeatedly questioning God- but He is ok with that! He is big enough to handle our doubts and questions.
16:5 Then Sarai said to Abram, “This is all your fault!” Too funny!! Isn’t this just like us?! We never want to accept the blame for anything!
16:6 Abram is coming off as pretty weak to me in this passage.
18:12 Sarah laughed thinking she was too old for God to use (to have a child)…am I that way?! Do I think God using me is a laughable idea?
18:14 “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” ???!!!
4:19,20 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed him. The faith that took…they just left everything and went!!
6:13 “don’t let us yield to temptation” Jesus teaching the disciples to pray…this particular translation makes more sense to me than the well-known “lead us not into temptation” because God doesn’t tempt us or lead us into it…He can and will, however, deliver us from giving in!
Psalm 1:1-7:17 & Proverbs 1:1-2:5
Ps. 4:1 “…Free me from my troubles. Have mercy on me and hear my prayer.”
At this point in my Bible journey, I could feel God tugging at me!! I didn’t make many notes this first week but one thing I did do?? I watched Pastor Steven Furtick’s message, The Benefit of the Doubt…and God used it to change my life!!!
“Religion can put you at a dead-end. When you’ve made so many commitments to change but you never really do! ‘This is the last time I’ll do this’, but you do it again…and everytime you feel a little more hopeless that you will ever be capable of real change. Are you at a dead-end? And did you know that dead end’s are the perfect beginning for true change in Jesus Christ?! This is not the end!” -Pastor Steven Furtick, Elevation Church
